Adult Bible Study

Two opportunities for Bible Study are available for you!    Discussions typically center around the next Sunday's Gospel and Lessons, but occasionally the group will explore a short, special series on a particular theme during the Summer, Lent, etc.   Attended by 8 - 15 people each week, the discussions create a more knowledgeable contribution to the following Sunday's service.

Wednesday Bible Study (1:30 pm in the main conference room #310)

Beginning January 24 and continuing to March 7, we will begin our study of “How Lutherans Interpret the Bible” by Dr. Mark Allan Powell. He is a Lutheran pastor and Bible professor at Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio. In this seven session video series Powell invites you to explore seven important questions about Lutherans and the Bible. He does not prescribe “the Lutheran way" to read the Bible nor does he dismiss the way you may have come to understand the Bible. Instead Powell presents a variety of Lutheran perspectives for interpreting the Bible. Through Powell's rich discussions you will discover answers to questions you have always had about the Bible.

Beginning March 14, we will be studying the Gospel of Mark, utilizing a DVD performance of the Gospel of Mark!  The first Christians heard the stories about Jesus; they didn't read them. This DVD, filmed live at the Lay School of Ministry in the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin, allows 21st century Christians to experience the gospel just as the early Christians would have: in performance.  Phil Ruge-Jones, Associate Professor of Theology at Texas Lutheran University, and member of the Network of Biblical Storytellers, performs the entire Gospel of Mark from memory. As the word becomes a living word, you will experience the passionate impact of the good news of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. The Gospel of Mark will never be the same for you!
