Adult Bible Study

Two opportunities for Bible Study are available for you!    Discussions typically center around the next Sunday's Gospel and Lessons, but occasionally the group will explore a short, special series on a particular theme during the Summer, Lent, etc.   Attended by 8 - 15 people each week, the discussions create a more knowledgeable contribution to the following Sunday's service.

Tuesday Night Bible Study

 7:00 to 8:30 pm.

Please use the South Entrance (Sunday School wing). Bible Study is held in the Main Conference Room (room 310).   You are invited to join the group every Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.

Bible Study (7:00 pm in the main conference room #310)

The Tuesday night Bible study will not meet during January or February.
We are looking for suggestions for topics of study. Contact Steve Reid at
815-988-3046 with study ideas or for more information about this group.

Wednesday Afternoon Bible Study

This study meets on Wednesdays at 1:30 pm in the conference room (room 310).  Pastor Janet leads this study.  All are welcome to attend whenever you can!

Wednesday Bible Study (1:30 pm in the main conference room #310)

Through January 17, we will continue our study of Luther’s Small Catechism using a new curriculum entitled By Heart. By Heart is a richly illustrated, in-depth exploration of the Small Catechism. We will study the biblical and historical context of the Small Catechism, its link to the church’s faith, and its connection to Luther’s life and our life today. Each session will also have a short, lively, animated video. Because each chapter in the By Heart book contains more information than any group can cover in a single meeting, the videos provide a fun, quick way to create curiosity and allow us to explore the material by digging deeply into our own experiences.
Beginning January 24 and continuing to March 7, we will begin our study of “How Lutherans Interpret the Bible” by Dr. Mark Allan Powell. He is a Lutheran pastor and Bible professor at Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio. In this seven session video series Powell invites you to explore seven important questions about Lutherans and the Bible. He does not prescribe “the Lutheran way" to read the Bible nor does he dismiss the way you may have come to understand the Bible. Instead Powell presents a variety of Lutheran perspectives for interpreting the Bible. Through Powell's rich discussions you will discover answers to questions you have always had about the Bible.
